Cancellation Policy – ATOL Protection
Our UK Pack holidays are ATOL Protected which means you are financially protected in the unlikely event it is deemed unsafe to travel by the UK and Greek governments, and we are unable to operate. In this scenario we would offer refunds or credit vouchers for future holidays. If, as we expect, our holidays operate as normal, any cancellations would be subject to our usual Booking Conditions.
Any additional factors that may prevent travel (e.g. becoming infected by the virus close to travel, UK local lockdowns, non-compliance with travel health protocols such as requirement for vaccine passports or negative Covid tests prior to travel, or UK imposed quarantine restrictions on returning travellers etc.) are not risks we can cover and normal cancellation terms would apply. We strongly advise everyone ensures they have adequate travel insurance to cover these potential Covid-related risks and other general travel risks when booking holidays in advance.
Expectations for Summer 2021
Despite media reports on 22nd March suggesting that travel abroad from the UK would be prohibited until July, this is speculation. The UK Government has stated that foreign holidays for UK citizens will potentially be possible from 17th May. Since the Greek Government have also announced that they will to welcome tourists from around 15th May we are still hopefully that our 2021 programme will start on 30 May.
The UK Government’s Travel Taskforce is due to report on 12th April, although the PM has indicated it may happen a week earlier. This should confirm the date at which international travel can restart (currently advised as no earlier than 17th May), to what countries and under what circumstances.
For those already booked on a holiday this summer we will contact you as soon as possible when we have any concrete information following the Travel Taskforce’s report and any subsequent Government announcement.
Entry Requirements: Greece
Although the UK vaccination programme is going extremely well, we’re all aware that Covid will still be around for some time. So this does mean holidays will probably still require some adherence to health protocols in terms of travel and when in resort. The Greeks are currently in discussion with the UK and other countries about possible entry requirements, via proof of a Covid vaccination or a negative Covid test within a few days of travel, possibly as part of a ‘Digital Green Certificate’.
Also referred to as a vaccination certificate, the Digital Green Certificate will be proof that a person has been vaccinated against Covid-19, received a negative test result or recovered from the coronavirus.
From the Greek Prime Minister, 18th March 2021: “Α digital green certificate will significantly facilitate travel, something which of course is very important for countries such as Greece, which is very dependent on tourism…With such a certificate you will be allowed to enter a country such as Greece without any quarantine and without any additional testing at the borders, so as more people get vaccinated I expect this digital green passport to become standard in travel. And I do expect that it will allow us to safely open for the summer holidays. We intend to start our summer season officially around May 15.”
Anticipated Protocol for 2021
Health protocols for 2021 are still being established by the Greeks and the travel industry. But at Club Vass, we’re confident we can rise to the challenge and ensure the welfare of our clients and staff for the coming season. As many of you know, we opened in 2020 with no Covid-related issues and the health protocols we followed ensured everyone’s safely with little impact on enjoyment. The Greek government handled the pandemic well in 2020 and there were very few cases on Lefkas island during the whole summer and none at all in Vassiliki. Greek infection rates are still extremely low compared to many other European countries, with the Ionian including Lefkas deemed one of the safest areas in Europe by the ECDC (European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control). We can confidently expect the local situation this summer to be as good if not better than last year.
General safely procedures including:
- Completion of Passenger Locator Forms both for entry to Greece and return to UK
- Compulsory wearing of masks within airports, during flight and on transfer services to resort
NB BA aircraft, as most modern airliners, are fitted with HEPA filters, (as used in hospital operating theatres), which filter out germs and viruses, including Covid19, with over 99.9% efficiency. The aircraft are thoroughly disinfected daily providing surface protection lasting 24 hours or more.
In 2020 rooms were steam cleaned and sanitised between each set of clients; with additional midweek and weekend cleaning (a daily cleaning service was not allowed). Bed linen and towels were changed at these times. For 2021 this would be the minimum service we would operate – if local health protocols allow we will go back to a daily light clean on other days. We may still have to operate some social distancing measures in the restaurant and only be able to provide table service for meals. For 2021 again the restaurant will be open for breakfast and lunch service and we anticipate operating a dinner service 3 evenings a week (and there will still be plenty of places to eat in the village which are open daily). We are also hoping the weekly BBQ can go ahead next year. Importantly the bar will be open most of the day, every day! All our kit and equipment will again be regularly sanitised.
