Latest Update for Summer 2021
UK Government Travel Guidelines
Lefkada, along with many Greek Islands, is virtually covid-free and should have met the Green status criteria but unfortunately the UK Government have adopted a blanket approach to guidelines at this stage. However, we are very hopeful that the Greek Islands will be given the Green Light at the next review at the end of May. The Greek Tourism Minister recently met with UK Transport Secretary Grant Shapps and Health Secretary Matt Hancock to push for a regional approach. He said “…Αll of the Greek islands should have been on the green list of the traffic light system… I am pretty confident…that there will be no problem in the next review of the UK’s traffic light system”. The Greek Government have also pledged that all islands will be fully vaccinated by the end of June, safeguarding both locals and visitors alike. This programme has already been completed on 32 islands and Lefkada is next on the list and should be done well before the end of June.
Club Vass Opening
Club Vass will open as planned on 30th May for local business and arrivals from other countries.
Regretfully, given the current Amber status, we have had to postpone the start of our UK Pack holiday program (including BA flights) from 30th May to 27th June (we have sourced alternative flights for those who have decided to still travel on 20th June). We will not be requesting holiday balance payments until Lefkada is given the ‘Green’ status we fully expect by early June; we will contact everyone accordingly. If you do wish to cancel your holiday before this, you would only be charged the deposit and not the higher cancellation charges that would normally apply for cancellations within 63 days of travel.
Here are our current expectations regarding travel requirements once Lefkada gets the Green Light, (we will update you as necessary):
Outward travel: Completion of a Greek Passenger Locator Form (as last year) and proof of full Vaccination (travel no earlier than 2 weeks after the last jab) or a negative PCR Covid test or proof of antibody immunity. Where applicable the Greeks require a PCR test for anyone over 5 years.
Return travel: Completion of a UK Passenger Locator Form (as last year), pre-departure Covid test and a PCR Covid test on or before Day 2 of arrival back. The UK require tests for anyone over 10 years. No self-isolation/quarantine would be required (unless a positive test was recorded).
Covid Tests: We are working to get the cost of any tests required in Greece at least partially subsidised and to ensure the process is as straightforward as possible for you. Prices for UK Covid tests (where necessary) have dropped and the hope is they will come down further in price, once non-essential international travel resumes from UK on 17th May. We are also hopeful that the proposed new NHS App could be used for proof of vaccination and/or test results for travel.
Passenger Locator Forms: When we email your travel documents (3-4 weeks prior to travel) we will include links to Passenger Locator Forms and test suppliers offering the best deals, plus any other key information needed. During travel, masks-wearing will remain compulsory at airports, in-flight and on transfer to resort. Greek health protocols for 2021 are still being finalised, but we expect them to be similar to last year.
At Club Vass we’re confident we can rise to the challenge and ensure the welfare of our clients and staff as we did in 2020. As many of you know, we had no Covid-related issues and the health protocols we followed ensured everyone’s safety and we had a fantastic summer. Thank you for your patience and understanding and we can’t wait to see you at Club Vass!
Cancellation Policy – ATOL Protection
Our UK Pack holidays are ATOL Protected which means you are financially protected in the unlikely event it is deemed unsafe to travel by the UK and Greek governments, and we are unable to operate. In this scenario we would offer refunds or credit vouchers for future holidays. If, as we expect, our holidays operate as normal, any cancellations would be subject to our usual Booking Conditions.
Any additional factors that may prevent travel (e.g. becoming infected by the virus close to travel, UK local lockdowns, non-compliance with travel health protocols such as requirement for vaccine passports or negative Covid tests prior to travel, or UK imposed quarantine restrictions on returning travellers etc.) are not risks we can cover and normal cancellation terms would apply. We strongly advise everyone ensures they have adequate travel insurance to cover these potential Covid-related risks and other general travel risks when booking holidays in advance.
Anticipated Protocol for 2021
General safely procedures including:
- Completion of Passenger Locator Forms both for entry to Greece and return to UK
- Compulsory wearing of masks within airports, during flight and on transfer services to resort
NB BA aircraft, as most modern airliners, are fitted with HEPA filters, (as used in hospital operating theatres), which filter out germs and viruses, including Covid19, with over 99.9% efficiency. The aircraft are thoroughly disinfected daily providing surface protection lasting 24 hours or more.
In 2020 rooms were steam cleaned and sanitised between each set of clients; with additional midweek and weekend cleaning (a daily cleaning service was not allowed). Bed linen and towels were changed at these times. For 2021 this would be the minimum service we would operate – if local health protocols allow we will go back to a daily light clean on other days. We may still have to operate some social distancing measures in the restaurant and only be able to provide table service for meals. For 2021 the restaurant will be open for breakfast and lunch service as last season (and there will still be plenty of places to eat in the village which are open daily). Importantly the bar will be open most of the day, every day! All our kit and equipment will again be regularly sanitised.
